IBC SL or HC to replace the boiler for radiant heating.

Hi there,

I'm looking for advice on the best boiler for my 1663 sq ft home. I'm considering the IBC SL and HC models, but I'm not sure which one is right for me. I've heard that the IBC has a great warranty, so I'd love to hear your recommendation.

Thanks,
Liz

Both are decent units. I have installed both. The SL certainly has a more sophisticated control. They also have the SFB which is a middle between the HC and SL.

What is your system like? Baseboard? Radiant? Panel Radiators? Cast iron radiators?

The differences can be meaningful when the zoning and loads are considered. Is there a need for and also the system flow to support rapid warm up ( higher BTU output utilization) Are there any micro zones? The SFB ( basically next gen. HC) has an aluminum fire side heat exchanger that can corrode and is in theory, less robust than the standard stainless steel fire tube design of the SL. I have not found the aluminum of the SFB/ HC to be a big problem. Unlike the SL fire tube the SFB combustion path is fully physically accessible and cleanable. Cost is an obvious difference. As said above The SL control is way better, especially if traditional outdoor reset is wanted. Error diagnostics and many other things are better or present with the SL control.
