skim port plug

hey guys

Over the summer I want to give my boiler a good skimming. My question is how hard will it be to get that plug out? its been in for 20 years I cant see this being an easy task….any tips on removal?

After 20 years, I would bet it will have to be cut out. I wouldn't mess with it. You shouldn't have oil in a boiler after 20 years and skimming shouldn't be necessary unless you added lots of new piping…

Hi, This makes me wonder why don't the manufacturers use Teflon tape, or some sort of dope that can be worked with? I've often wondered the same thing about anodes in water heaters… Why make these things so difficult to deal with? 👹
