Help with cold drafty room
Hi everyone I'm just getting into understanding steam and looking for some help.
I'm renting a floor of a Brooklyn brownstone.
Single pipe steam system. Most of the apartment heats fine. (although there is clanking now and then ) However the back bedroom, which was an addition has lots of cold air infiltration.
As a result that room is consistently 20 degrees colder than the rest of the apartment.
I was thinking we need to upside the radiator,am I right?
I also noticed that it seems that radiator doesn't get as hot as the others .
I also know that it is the furthest from the boiler.
As well the pipes are not Insulated.

a larger vent may make it heat more and faster but if there is water hammer then there are system issues outside your apartment and those may be what are causing that radiator to not heat fully.

Getting a larger radiator won't help if the steam never gets to it. It sounds like step 1 to improve the venting as fast as you can without causing water hammer or other problems. Another thought is to install a Gorton #1 main vent on the input side of the radiator to vent the steam out of the runout as quick as possible.
But improving air infiltration will help a lot. Caulk around windows and any trim and install that plastic film over the windows that adheres to the frame and "shrink wraps" to prevent drafts.
