Crossover trap mounting details?

How should a crossover trap be attached to the end of the steam main? Should the inlet of the trap be in line with the bottom of the main (using an eccentric reducer)? Air will still cross over to the dry return with it piped like this?
Or off the top for air only and handle condensate with a drip?
Same for an F&T?
Thanks!
Trying to squeeze the best out of a Weil-McLain JB-5 running a 1912 1 pipe system.

It can be either. it can come off the top with a drip and be only the vent or it can use a reducing ell or tap the bottom of the main or use an eccentric reducer and be both the return and vent. the vent and drip is likely to need less maintenance.
It could also be a drip and a vent.
This is assuming it isn't a specific vapor system that needs to handle it in a specific way.
