Wiring from Taco SR501for indirect to Hydrostat

After installing an outdoor reset, I just discovered that my indirect hot water tank is not wired to communicate with the boiler. A TACO SR501 controls the indirect circulator, and the circulator will run when the indirect needs heat, however, the only thing activating the gas boiler to fire is the lo limit on the hydrostat 3200+ which is set at 160.

I noticed the 110 supply from the hydrostat to the Taco relay is connected to the L1 Hot terminal and not the I1 for indirect, they do however have the neutral to the I2 terminal.
There is only 1 zone for heating besides the Indirect.

Will changing the hot lead to the I1 terminal fix this? or is additional wiring needed for the Taco relay to communicate with the hydrostat?

This system was installed by an hvac company 4 years ago, as is ,I am not getting any benefits from the hydrostat and I would like to correct this myself, I think its crazy to be maintaining a low of 160 at all times.

Thanks!!

The pic is the Taco sr501 relay. The 110 input is coming from the hydrostat L1 and I2 terminals.

it looks like you don’t have a connection or communication from the Relay to the Boiler itself.

You’re just taking power from the other relay so you need to wire the relay to TY or XX on the boiler so it sends the message to turn the boiler on. This should come from 6 N/O and 5 Com in the bottom right

First of all, when you have an indirect water tank, you do not want to maintain a boiler temperature.  That defeats the purpose of using an indirect.

Let me look at the big picture and design a wiring diagram so you can turn the low limit to OFF and make your boiler a cold start system.   I want to read the 3200+ manual to see if the outdoor reset has an override feature for DHW.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

I agree, that's why I would like to rectify this. My understanding from the manual that the outdoor reset should not affect the indirect, if wired correctly, the indirect should have priority and reach hi limit. Which obviously it does not.
    I appreciate the help.

set the 3200+ to operate with the low limit OFF to make the boiler a cold start.

Here is the wiring from the manual for your situation

This is what it should look like on your controls.

Ok, I added the comm line from relay to hydrostat, the indirect is now working as it should as a cold start. Your diagram was spot on.

Thank you!!, your help is very much appreciated!!
