Not Enough Space for my Danfoss TRV

I only have about 5 inches between my vent hole on the radiator and the wall. The trv and actuator is too long. Can I put a 1/8 nipple and a 90 degree elbow off the vent hole and bring the trv out perpendicular to the radiator?

YES.   You can use a street 90° or a short nipple and a 90°.  You will want to pitch the perpendicular 1/8" pipe up slightly so condensation does not get trapped in that pipe. And you may need to support it in some fashion if it is easily bumped and ends up pitching down away from the radiator.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?
