Do main steam need to be absolutely vertical?

I m adding some vents to the mains.I’m not gonna have enough room to get the them straight unless I bring the pipe into the upstairs closet. I really don’t feel like doing that unless absolutely necessary. If I keep them in the basement they would be at a 60-70 Degree angle . The vents are gorton#1’s

Can that work?

I would imagine the manufacture intended them to be straight up. They may work at an angle, they may do odd or intermittent things depending on the angle and the orientation. It may lead to premature valve failure since every time it cycles it is sliding on the side of the valve seat instead of a centered closing and opening. At best it may be an experiment.

You have no room to offset it a foot or two into an adjacent void in the building or back along the main ?

so I am gonna use the opening where the old Hoffman is now to add the gortons on nipple but the floor above is too close . I’m thinking of going up with a nipple than over the top of that pipe to the left up into a closet🤷🏻‍♂️

Where does this pipe go ? A main vent at the other end may be just as functional.

that goes to a 1.5 pipe in the closet that they capped out around 3 ft and tapped a normal rad vent into. lol a custom closet radiator

Since you were going toward the closet anyways I'd probably use that pipe since it is already there.

For what its worth, I have a Gorton #1 on a slight angle due to limited head room that has been working fine for years. Maybe make an inquiry directly to Gorton who im sure would have the answer based on in-house testing

    All the best,

Why not take the cap off that pipe and with a reducer mount the main vent.

so can i replace the vent in the basement then add another like u mentioned? that would be same as adding another in the basement?

Use a Gorton D radiator vent on the riser. It's the same venting as a Gorton #1 main vent. Then replace the Hoffman with another Gorton #1 vent on the main without a nipple.

Sorry didn't notice you had previous threads so didn't know whether that was going to be enough venting for you. With just 30ft of 2" makes sense.
