Bosch Singular 5200 Combiboiler - Exchanger leaking?
Bosch Singular 5200 Combiboiler - Exchanger Leaking?
This unit has been successfully running since May 2023.
The unit started leaking dirty water from a screw on the bottom of the unit. I removed units front cover to find a small puddle of dirty colored water at the bottom (some corrosion around the screws from the water touching them). Initially I thought that the condensation drain was clogged a bit. I cleaned out the condensate drain trap at the bottom of the unit. I also cleaned and verified that there was no blockage in any of the condensation drain pipes leaving the unit going to the to the neutralizer and then to the sewer drain. I put everything back together and started the unit again.
After about 30 min of using the unit a small puddle of liquid started to gather at the bottom again. After a few more hours I decided to check the condensation trap to see if it was filling with liquid. I removed the condensation drain cap on the bottom of the unit. The condensation drain was filling which seems normal. I checked the neutralizer a day later and it was filling / functioning as normal.
At this point I noticed a drop of liquid fall from the side of the exchanger to the bottom of the unit. This is when I decided to remove the black plastic exchanger cover. I immediately noticed that the bottom of the exchanger is sitting in water which is causing corrosion to happen (corroded screws/exchanger)
Does this look like the heat exchanger is leaking?
