Oil Burner Books

I've been in the process of mentoring a younger service tech in hvac service, steam and boilers. We have touched on oil a bit when he has been with me. Basic stuff changing nozzles, filters and electrodes caught on quick. I looked to see if I still had any of my old oil textbooks but don't have them anymore.

What newer books would you guys recommend that goes over the finer points of oil burners and combustion for more in-depth read that I can get him? Oil burners are fading away here in SE MI, unfortunately, he won't get the amount of exposure to them like I did growing up. I'm the "old guy" at 47 passing along the knowledge, when did that happen? lol

NORA Technicians Manual covers it all, you can purchase a printed copy but it is available in audio and pdf version at no cost at

@offdutytech I have a "combustion and oil burning equipment" by Charlie Burkhardt.

I will give it to you. I would rather do that than throw it out. It's still a good book the basics don't change although the book is about 50 years old . I'ts what we used in school back in my day.

Just PM me an address and I will get it out. I may have a couple of others I will through in.

"Combustion and Oil Burning Equipment" was written by George " @Firedragon " Lanthier some time ago. I think the current version is called "Advanced Residential Oil Burners". I haven't talked to him in a while, but his site is here:

Burkhardt's book is "Domestic and Commercial Oil Burners" I also have Firedragons book which I will send you.
