System 2000 energy manager
we don’t have heat in one of our five zones. A technician from the oil company came who did not appear to be an authorized system 2000 to my eye . He decided the computer was at fault and connected that thermostat wire to the hot water zone on the energy manager because we don’t use that for hot water (electric hot water heater. Now the hot water circuit seems to be calling most of the time , but we’re getting minimal heat in that zone. The registers come on, and what they do only minimally, i.e. they don’t get very warm. Does the hot water heater zone work differently on this computer? The company is sending someone back, but I’m not sure if I trust them when they tell me that their techs are certified, as many of them aren’t. I’ll have more luck reaching a service manager and convincing him of the importance of sending a certified tech if there is evidence that the people that have come here don’t have the skills needed.

Yeah. The hot water zone works completely differently from the other zones. If the zone manager was at fault it can be bypassed. I suggest contacting Energy Kinetics and finding a different company that has been trained on their products. It's unfortunate that the tech that was there didn't have the sense to contact EK if he was having trouble, they have great technical support.

So at least you know the thermostat is completing the circuit and energizing a zone. Even if it's the wrong zone.
So the problem zone (we'll say for sake of discussion is T3) on the left side of the Manager. If there's a call for heat, the T3 light will be lit. The circulator light should also be on, and if the boiler temperature is 140° or above, the corresponding Z3 light should be on.
If all that is happening, then checking for 24 volts at the Zone valve for Z3 is next. You can actually check the lever on the zone valve to see if it moves freely. If it does, the valve is open. If the valve is open, then it's likely Z3 is air locked and the zone should be purged.
What's the condition of this?

Thank you for the high praise gentlemen. Mitcht Please ask your service provider to give us a call. We would be happy to walk him thru trouble shooting the computer as you called it. We do our best to keep the wait to a minimum when the tech is on site so please tell him to mention he's in front of the unit.
