Replacing the air vent
My boiler is 18 years old and I’ve had the air vent replaced once already. I have been away from my home for a few months and came back to start the heat. I found that the air vent had been leaking and lots of rust on the vent, pipes and top of the boiler. The plumber is charging $ to replace the vent. Not sure if the entire vent needs to be replaced or just the casing and the nipple. What do you think?

That appears to be a Taco Vortech air separator. It takes an unusual 1/2"air vent. The Taco replacement parts number is 418-4. They can be tricky to replace, I've seen the air vent get stuck and my coworker destroyed it trying to remove it. A 3/4" nipple can be put in the air vent to prevent it from being crushed if a pipe wrench is required to remove it. Either way $ seems like a lot to just replace the vent. I'm holding that quote includes replacing the entire air scoop, hopefully with an upgraded micro bubble resorber type air eliminator.

@DYIGal The replacement vent for a -3 model is 419-1 and the replacement vent for a -1 or -2 would be 418-4 ( the 418-3 is obsoleted now ). Taco started to manufacture the -3 models early 2000's.
Attached is a way to try to take the vent off.
