Outdoor Reset on Lochinvar vs. Taco

Just got my shop infloor heat replumbed after converting from a on demand water heater to a Lochinvar Noble boiler. Running two zones with a Taco SR503-EXP.

I have an HBX WAV-0110 wireless outdoor sensor connected direct to the boiler but it’s having constant connection issues.

It doesn’t seems like it’s cycling the way I understand an outdoor reset to work. The boiler seems that it’s on and off frequently for short cycles. Primary reason to switch to a boiler was for gaining efficiency, so I really want the benefits of an outdoor reset.

Do I even need a reset or just hardwire an outdoor temperature sensor to the boiler (which I think is what the HBX is)?

Is an outdoor reset connected to the Taco switching relay more efficient?

Is there some way I can easily monitor/check if the boiler short cycling?

Is it a Combi? Doesn’t look to be. Those have an always hot setting that causes short cycles

the Lochinvar control has a couple parameters in the control to address short cycling

First limit the boiler output to match the actual heat load, do you have that number?

You could guesstimate based on the number of loops you have, that is what limits how much heat you can move into the space.

The anti cycling feature puts a time limit on the repeat cycles

A read through the manual explains how to set these functions

Thanks Bob for the quick reply!
    Not a combi.

I do not have heat load numbers. 10 loops, 2,400 sqft.

I do know anticycling is on. I’ll read more about those settings.

I would take HotRod’s recommendation for set up your control, and use the Taco relay as a facilitator for your zone pumps and system pump to operate on demand from T-stat. Hopefully this was helpful. If you do need further assistance, contact Taco tech support directly at 401-942-8000, ask for tech support

The Noble comes with an outdoor sensor and the reset curve is very easy to set up when in installer mode (password 5309) with your design day water temp and design day outdoor temp. The boiler control does the rest for you.
