Sludge Treat after tuneup
Before I do anything I’ll regret….we already had our oil burner and steam boiler serviced in August. It’s running fine. We are currently at 1/4 tank and are getting our 285 gallon tank filled tomorrow. I have some Sludge Treat and was going to add a pint to the tank today. But am I asking for trouble? I don’t want to loosen up anything and clog the filter or worse. I have used it a couple times in the past year. Not sure how often I should add it. Thanks

AHH Sludge. My favorite nemesis. I learned filters at oil tanks only work when the oil line was always filtered. After a client had his basement jackhammered for a waterproofing piping, his oil nozzle kept clogging. New filter at tank, useless. Had to filter at burner useless. Had to replace the oil pipe. Just too much sludge to filter. 40 years of sludge lining the pipe was not a problem until the jackhammers arrived.

How old is the tank?
Top fed or bottom?
1 pipe or 2?
Has sludge been an issue in the past?
I add this before every delivery I get.

Tank is maybe 10-12 years old. Bottom fed. New coated line. One pipe. I’m just trying to be proactive, but we did have some filter clogging. Our state mandates B10 biofuel.

@Don_175 If you have been using oil treatment right along and had good results I would continue using it.
