Years ago I was working for a government agency. One of their "Engineers" ordered all boiler temps to be lowered on all boilers to "save on fuel". This was on multiple buildings in many different locations. Of course, problems began to arise months later. I suggested having tune-ups done annually on all of the equipment as part of a preventative maintenance program and having the temps adjusted so the byproducts of combustion can expel properly. I was looked at as if I was the antichrist until it got so bad that obvious issues were showing up.
Thanks @RayWohlfarth for posting this. It is a very good reminder of what to look out for in a boiler room.
