Horizontal draft diverter
Does anyone know if a horizontal diverter on a standard water heater is against code in NYC?

Hi, I'd like to see a picture or sketch of what's envisioned. I'm used to draft diverters (or draft hoods) being on top of water heaters so horizontal isn't really an option. There is an old trick of putting a vent T on top of a tank heater so the T is situated just like the letter, and then running one side of the T over and down the side of the tank a foot or so, and the other side of the T goes to exhaust. This can be used to force draft some in difficult situations. The dead men used it around here, but it probably violates code or installation instructions these days. 🧐

We see lots of them around here, with oval openings facing down. They were manufactured. And they're not 35 years old…
