very confused about steam radiators and when I turned on my heat there’s water coming out of the valves and lots of banging from the pipes. Looking for someone in the surrounding area to come take a look, it seems like I can’t find anyone who specializes in steam radiators.

Is this the first winter you have been in this residence? Is it a private home or an apartment in a larger building? Do you have access to the basement? Best plan is to do as told above and talk with these folks and if you have further questions get back to the forum here. Right now you have not provided enough information for us to advise you effectively.

This is not the first winter. I have lived here for 7 years and I have had a number of people out to service it before. I feel like none of them have been specialists though and it’s more like a bandaid for the issue. I did turn it off when I noticed the water.

If the water and banging is a new issue then the boiler could be overfilling perhaps due to a bad water feeder (if you have one). If it has been going on for years and you have verified that 1) your pressuretrol is set to not allow any pressure over 2psi (better <1.5psi), 2) all your radiator inlet valves are 100% open not just partially (assuming you have a one pipe system), 3) all your radiators have some pitch back toward the inlet valve and 4) all your radiator vents are working (meaning they are not stuck open and properly close when steam reaches them) then to start to help you we would need to see photos of the boiler from multiple angles showing all the piping.
