One Zone Not Heating Oil Burner
Hi there,
We have a two zone oil burner with baseboard hot water heating. The bottom floor zone valve opens when you turn thermostat up and baseboards get warm but not hot. The boiler doesn’t kick on when you turn thermostat up. The pipe coming from the zone valve is definitely hot. We haven’t had freezing temps lately. We were having issues with lockouts and had someone coming clean and service. I’m wondering who to call next? Plumber or hvac?

Hello hcrumley,
If one zone works normally and the other does not, assuming no wiring issues, the 'End Switch' inside the Zone Valve assembly may have failed or the zone valve is not fully opening.

It could be something like a zone valve or you might have air in the pipes and it's not circulating. Whoever takes care of the oil burner should be able to figure it out. Not all plumbers work on boilers and not all HVAC companies are good with oil burners. But usually whoever does oil burner service will know how to troubleshoot a boiler.

You would call whoever services the boiler.
The upper level zone works fine?
There could be air in the loop and it needs to be purged.
Is the lower level on a slab, or is there basement or crawlspace underneath?
