The boiler won't start, this Fridays case
Walking inside the commercial boiler room of the no heat call, I was greeted by a large old cast iron sectional boiler with a Powerflame power burner. “It worked great yesterday,” the owner said and I nodded. Looking at the tridicator, the water temperature was about 75 degrees F. and the system pressure showed 12 psi, enough for this two story building. Using my voltage detector, I found voltage feeding the boiler. We have power but no heat. Thinking it’s a manual reset control, I pushed all the reset buttons and still could not wake the sleeping cast iron beast. Kneeling in front of the burner, I checked the continuity between OL1 and OL2. This is the circuit with all the safety controls such as the low water cutoff and operating and limit controls. There was continuity so all the controls were made. Switching the meter to volts, I saw there was no power to OL1 or OL2. I will talk about this project this week
