Well, it's most likely running poorly, sooted up and not drafting properly. Every time the burner fired you get a puff of soot out of the inspection door. You could seal it but that won't fix anything.
The boiler sections, combustion chamber and flue pipe needs to be vacuumed and brushed out. The nozzle, filter and oil pump strainer replaced. The ignition components need to be evaluated, that burner is an obsolete model and parts are not available anymore. Any reliability issues, I recommend installing a new Beckett AFG or Carlin EZ-1 oil burner. Then the draft needs to be set and the burner adjusted to a true zero smoke with a digital combustion analyzer.

This is a WGO-3 Steam boiler, I did vacuum out the flue pipe b4 I fired it up, Does this boiler have the pull out tabs like a hydronic type? I do have spare parts for the burner. Problem Im having is find someone in South Jersey that knows this burner. Im getting ready to do myself. I've done Becketts but this one is a little different. The gun assemble is a little different with that Cam adj..i have the manaul.
