Water heat zone running continuously

Hello,

I have a water based heating system and our Zone controller has space for 5 zones. We have one more zone for a space in the basement that is wired differently because there was no space for that zone on the zone controller. The problem is that this zone is running continuously and does not listen to the thermostat it seems. I have drawn the current wiring and am curious if
1) Can you really add a zone without going through the zone controller (it was like this when we moved in)?
2) If yes, is the wiring ok or there is something that needs to be done differently?
Thank you very much.
Louis

  • Try removing a wire from the Nest - either one - and see if the zone still calls for heat. If it does continue to call for heat, there's something wrong with the wiring. If the heating is off, it could be the thermostat.

What model zone valve? Is there a lever that could be locked open?

The wiring looks correct, other than the Nest not being constantly 24 volt powered.

Do you know what NEST thermostat you have? Look at the sub-base.

For heat only, you may need to connect to Rh and W to get the heat to operate properly. You may find that you will then need to connect power to RC and C

Depending of the sub-base, you may or may not have two R terminals. Please choose one of the above.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

    Thank you very much.

I will try disconnecting one wire from the Nest. I don't think that it is the Thermostat because I changed it thinking that it was the problem and I get the same situation → continuous heat

I checked at the manual and it is in the right position.

My Nest thermostat is the 3rd Gen.

Also, the valves are Honeywell Home and it is on the Auto mode.
