Looking for circ pump recommendations.

Hi, It looks like my pump has quit working. I am looking for a direct replacement for a B&G series 100 pump. It is 1-1/4 pipe in a mono-flo system. I would like to get a good pump to put in now and buy time to rebuild the B&G later if it is possible. I would like to be able to bolt the new pump right in and not do much re-piping. LMK what you pros would recommend. Thanks!

My personal preference is to get a modern wet rotor circulator. A Taco 007 or Grundfos 15-58 would probably work well in place of that big old three piece B&G.

Well I guess i kinda jumped to conclusions on this one. I bought a new Taco 007 circ. to install and was unhooking the 110v wiring to the old pump and decided to hot wire the old pump with an extension cord. The old pump still works ! I traced the problem back to a blown fuse on the Taco SR501 switch relay. Not sure why the fuse blew on first startup this year ? Thanks

"After you replace that expensive part, and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?"

I would ask my technicians that question all the time…. one of them actually answered "The fuse" LOL. Then check that first! It is cheaper and easier. It actually was the fuse.

That's why I use it as my signature line below!

As far as why it blew? That B&G motor is a split phase motor. It has a start winding that draws more amperage on start up until it gets up to speed where a centrifugal switch drops that start phase out of the circuit. Perhaps that start phase winding was engaged too long because the pump sat idle for the summer and was stuck from sitting so long, unused.

If it continues to blow fuses, then you may need a new motor.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Just get another series 100. Fix the first one and keep it as the spare.
