@EzzyT - I currently have a B&G NRF-22 and have had taco pumps of similar size but they keep breaking due to dirt water as part of a hot water loop off a single pipe steam radiator boiler. The boiler is due for replacement soon but trying to delay till after this winter. I saw you mention a 3 piece pump would you recommend one of the below or something different? https://www.supplyhouse.com/Bell-Gossett-106197LF-1-12-HP-Series-100-Bronze-BNFI-Circulator-Pump

Any concerns if the pipe work doesn't include a wye strainer? Any other recommendations?

Do you know the gpm requirement? The B&G PL series has a separate motor, not water lubricated. It is less $$ compared to the series 100. Cast iron will be less $$ also.

You might want look into getting a tankless coil for your new boiler. The tankless coil will separate the boiler water/condensate from the circulated water. I have used this on a church that has a 2million BTU boiler that needed to make steam for 3 offices and 2 bathrooms when the Sanctuary and/or Hall was not in use. That got expensive.

By removing the steam rads form those rooms, and putting in about 30 feet of baseboard connected to the tankless coil, the boiler only needed to get the water to 150°F to heat that small zone. The coil was set up with an expansion tank, relief valve, air purger, circulator and fill valve setup. Worked like a charm.

As far as your current problem is concerned, You might want to use a lower cost pump if ypu are going to be swapping that boiler in the near future. If you are like me though, you may never get to that new boiler, so you might as well get the bronze B&G 100. $$$$$$

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

bronze 3 piece oil lubricated pump like a B&G 100 is what you’ll need.

But as @EdTheHeaterMan has mentioned when the boiler get replaced go with a tankless cooler for that zone.

Thanks!! Is there much difference between the Bronze BNFI and the bronze AB pumps? Good to know on the tankless option for the future.
