Gas Water Heater Thermostat

Is there a tool to remove and instal the newer thermostats ?

    I think they surround those in breakable plastic so you need to buy a new water heater when the gas valve goes bad.

    After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

    Hi, I see that a number of places on the web suggest putting a 1/2" pipe in the gas port to use as a lever. Seems like a great way to crack the valve, but if you're replacing it anyway… My approach in the past has been to use a big monkey wrench.

    I was hoping for a tool , only the 24" jaws work , and the body is plastic . The 4 plastic tabs that Ed mentioned ? What for ? I thinking the 1/2"nipple for now … Thanks

    I have used the 1/2" nipple trick. With no issues.
