A little TLC for the JB-5

Pulled the panels on the MIL's 1960s era Weil Mclain and got a nice view of the firebox from the outside of the heat exchanger. A little furnace cement and all better. Did notice the case and boiler room were cooler.

Did no one notice the chunks of old cement lying on the floor?

Replaced one bad radiator vent, and I have a bad head on the MM 61 LWCO.(ouch!) Coming tomorrow.

Update. Replaced the LWCO head and the system shuts down on 12 oz pressure. Good for this winter.

I know that you know better but, the way you presented the LWCO head and the 12 oz pressure in the same sentence makes me thing that your MIL's LWCO is a pressure limit. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

    Lol. Point taken.

Vaporstat is cutting out at 12 oz,

LWCO is successfully shutting the solenoid valve for the water feed.

Sooo, even with the weather getting colder, gas usage fell by 20% just due to the heat actually going through the heat exchanger, rather than around it. Repairing the cement looks to be the most cost effective fix to date.

    MIL is happy.😍
