Leaking Super Stor

Are you guys seeing a lot of Super Stor indirect tanks leaking? My supply store is telling me that they are seeing a large percentage of tanks leaking in the first year…

Thanks in advance, Bob Gagnon

Hi, I only have questions. Did they say where the tanks are leaking? Is it at welds, fittings, or? Are there water quality issues? Salt softened water? No doubt engineers at HTP know what's going on. 🤔

  • Hey Larry, my supply store said many were leaking at the seams, within the 1st year, but another supply store told me they haven't had any leakers…

Super Stor used to have major issues with the replaceable stainless Well. Either leaking around, or the Well itself. I haven't heard much since (HTP) the welded Wells.

Hi, I can only guess at possible causes. If some tanks were not correctly passivated during manufacture, it could be the problem. Tanks using softened or salty water could be a problem. Water pressure could be a factor. So, manufacturing and/or installation conditions could be affecting things… Find that HTP engineer, in the back room! That person will know 🤓

If you are in an area with high cholorides in the water you could have problems. My water is above the spec for the tank but just barely so I'm not super worried about it but if you have high chlorides either naturally or from softening that could cause short tank life of the stainless tank.

Ha ha. Twenty years ago when we were installing them, virtually every one leaked within three or four years.

Maybe fifteen years ago, I happened to sight a stake truck that was carrying scores of junked ones piled up like cord wood.
