So, What's the word on the WM LGB series 3?

These look like a nice mid-efficiency steam boiler design, but our local supplier has stopped carrying them. Not sure if WM has stopped production or its just a local decision. Any experience good or bad?

Still shows as a current available model on the Weil-McLain.com website.

Probably just a local supplier decision. Not selling enough of them to keep all the parts in stock.

Looks like the ratings are about the same, but the color change in the jacket.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Getting rid of the atmospheric venting is probably good for a big jump in efficiency. Even a properly sized large atmospheric in a typical steam system is only running in the low/mid 60's seasonal efficiency. I would imagine the power vent design would bump that up significantly. Not in typical power burner range, and certainly not in a radiant burner/boiler set up, but probably quite a bump…probably low 70's seasonal efficiency. The typical oversized atmospheric steamer is running in the low to mid 50's efficiency.

The problem is the extra moving parts. All moving parts are failure points. I would just install a stack damper on a Series 2 to keep it from cooling down so fast. Yes, the damper is a moving part, but a replacement motor isn't that expensive, and is easy to replace.

I wish they would put the stack damper directly above the heat exchanger, like on large tank water heaters, to lock in the heat.
