hey everyone, i have a peerless wbv. The domestic hot water coil was disconnected years ago. Hot water is now run by electric hot water tank. My issue is the area that hot water used to enter the tank started leaking a bit. Old gasket not holding up, remaining water that may have been in there is just slowly leaking.
My question is if i go to just replace the plate with a solid block off and new gasket, would i need to drain the boiler? In my mind i wouldn’t have to, because theirs no water circulating the domestic hot coil. But i wanted some additional input from someone thats been around this stuff longer than me. Thanks

Yes you want to drain the boiler , there is boiler water behind the old coil .. I would expect some bolts will break .. Drilling and tapping new threads may have to be done to repair …
