Flow control? Balancing valve?
Boiler hydronic flow valve
I’m getting ready to upgrade my boiler and the only part that I’m unfamiliar with is this flow valve. Ive never seen one like this before, but in all fairness I’m not a boiler tech or even an HVAC tech.
House is a split level with 4 levels, 3 have radiant baseboard heat. Basement has none. - moving from a 200k 80% to a 195k 95% mod combi.
So what should I do with this thing? It’s physically in my way, and when I start rebuilding the system I know the flows will change some. This system is a bit different than my old house that was a single loop converted to a 4 zone. Should I just convert to multi zone?

I have never come across that exact part. It just appears to be a 3 zone purge valve that has a common inlet (or outlet) that is at least one pipe size larger than the three branches. Not a fan of that type of valve that is operated by a flat head screwdriver. theu work great when new, and if exercised regularly, but after sitting for several decades untouched, they are sometimes hard to operate.
I would place that in a scrap bin, then build or use a manifold that has ball valves with better handles.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

provided there is no real metal damage my plan was to rebuild the Spirovent. The water in this system is black, I don’t think it’s been drained or treated much in its life.
I just went down and looked all over that thing again for markings, on the back it has a stamp. As best I can make out - Modern0 -

That’s a deal I can’t refuse!
I pulled it out this morning for you!0 -
Cut it out. Cut all the 3/4 back. Then repipe it into your new manifold. Each with its own purge station.
I wouldn't be surprised if that's a Watts valve.

I'd call it a purge/ balance valve. All the valves were frozen open. Heat and penetrating oil worked to get them out. Packings were rock hard.
Modern is the name on back?
it will make for a good art project piece. Thanks

it looks pretty good all cleaned up!
I figured it was some sort of balancing valve.
I’m glad you like!
I’ll post an update when I get the new system built out this month!0
