Nice work @Mad Dog_2, really like the well supported expansion tank! From the first two picture, I was wondering how you supported it. Couldn't imagine you leaving it hanging out there like some I’ve seen. 😎

Brass nipples are much stronger and I have done a few ST-5s with no extra support, but I try to make the effort. Thanks man. Mad Dog 🐕

I'm assuming it just looks dark gray, and it's appearing black in the pictures.

You can probably get that out, Several ways. Vise grips or an 8" pipe wrench on it with some heat and Kroil Oil.
or weld a nut or a rod coupling on it
And the always handy drill and tap. If you drill and tap it take a grinder and grind it off flush. You can find the center and center punch it. Start off with a small drill and work your way up. 3/8-16 bolts use a 5/16" drill bit for the tap.
I have in some cases tapped a smaller 5/16 thread or an oversized 7/16 thread successfully.

Couldn't get sakrete, so I took what a hardware store had. BLACK furnace cement...weird...but did the job. Mad Dog 🐕
