Suggestions for replacement of Triangle Tube Prestige Solo 110

I have a 15 year old TT 110 and considering my best options for replacement. I have 9 CI radiators running off an old converted system using the existing 2" supply and return piping in the basement. Being 74 this will probably be my last install in my home.

did the TT serve you well? That is a solid brand.
Lochinvar, IBC, NTI, Viessmann are other good options.

This year the blower motor bearing went out. Cost me under $275 to replace it. Other than that it was fine for 15 years.

If it not leaking and overall looks in good shape I would keep going w/ it.

Thaks. I plan on letting it continue running, especially since it feeds my indirect water heater. But even Triangle Tube recently told me 15 years is near the end. So I want to buy a replacement ahead of time in case it dies mid-winter. I'm undecided whether to go with another mod-con or switch to a less efficient but longer-lifespan boiler. I recently retired but don't mind re-piping to fit a new boiler it. As you might imagine, I am looking for the best option for the least expense. I must admit the Solo 110 has been great.

  • I'm with you: forget the mod-con and go with an atmospheric, cast iron boiler. The efficiency won't be that different between the two because of your high temperature radiators and a cast iron boiler will give you and the next owner 30-50 years of service with fewer headaches.

Burnham makes a fantastic boiler, but find out from local suppliers which one is popular in your area.

if you like the features, benefits and functions of that mod con, modulation, outdoor reset, highest efficiency, etc., most all that goes away with a cast.

You will need a flue pipe. Avoid the noisy side wall models.

    Combustion air into the room.

It will cycle a lot on mild and shoulder season days

    Higher fuel consumption

    Probably take up more room?

That TT could in fact run 20 years, we see Munchkins around here with 20 years plus on them.

Is the outdoor reset function dialed in. If so there are times when you could supply 90° water to those CI radiators. That would be hard to do with a standard cast boiler. A CI boiler will need to run around 150°F all the time.

You may in fact run 80% of the heating season in high efficiency, 90% plus condensing mode with another mod con.

I condense most of the heating season. tip of the mitt Michigan, it gets cold. Granted I size, and troubleshoot condensing boilers for a living so I am very biased toward them. My number one recommendation is no matter what you buy try to get something with parts available locally!

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. I would like to stick with a Mod/Con since this one worked out very well. What I am trying to find out is what would be the smartest (best bang for the buck) and most reliable. The Triangle Tube has worked well, I installed it in 2008 or 2009. I'm wondering what the best choice would be today almost 16 years later. Thanks

For what its worth Triangle Tube has still been easy to deal with in my opinion, if there is a distributor available locally you might stick with what you know. The new model Instinct is really good for the price point, they do still offer the prestige line at a fairly hefty markup
