Are heat trap loops necessary on a water heater (indirect) with IFCs in a mixing valve?

Using a caleffi TMV with integral check valves. I had it all designed for heat traps (12" rise) as the manual instructs. But I got thinking that they are probably not necessary if the TMV have check valves. Any thoughts on this?
