Help with recessed fin tube convector covers

Hi everyone,

I've been struggling for years when reinstalling recessed convector covers after cleaning the fins or servicing.

Curious if there are any tips or tricks you all have discovered to help alleviate the problem.

Pics attached.

Thanks!

Looks like years of paint jamming the latch lever . You may want to clean it up …

There was an error rendering this rich post.

They all look at you and sneer when you lay hands on them. Each different, but all from the same twisted, over-painted family. Hydronic’s angry victims. No tips or tricks from me.

    Retired and loving it.

Definitely try to cut off the paint on the edges, before removing. If you need to force the cover off, there's a good likelihood that it will bend in the process. Will make it much harder to get it back on.
