Duct return from 10" to 8"
Hi all,
I have a bathroom in our basement I am finishing and the return air duct runs right over the shower and is only about 6'7 before finished it with framing and drywall. The other ducting that run through the bathroom
m is all at 7' what I wondering is is I can take the last 3 or 4' of the return and cut it down to 8" from the 10" it's at? The previous owner started the framing years ago and now it's not going to meet code. Let me know what you think.

is the entire trunk 8" (x something?) and only has a small takeoff or 2 in the section you want to reduce?

Looks like a wide duct. If you strangle that duct smaller you may screw up your system. Can't see enough to tell.
Depends what is connected to that return. You can shorten the height of the duct if you have room to go wider to make up the difference.
