SHORT radiator union options?

Hi all,
For purely aesthetic reasons, I'd like to move this (one pipe steam) rad as close as possible to the riser. Swapping out the valve for a standard iron union saves maaaaaaybe 1/4"overall.
Any slick ideas out there to accomplish this? The rad tapping is 1". Was hoping for a brass "spud + nut minus the valve" type fitting but can find no such animal. Yes. I'm OK with not having a valve here.
Thanks!
Patrick

Ah- sorry. The straight valve enters a T (the riser continues to the second floor) so I can't use a more typical "90" valve.
Thanks,
Patrick

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Thanks Ed- from there it was a quick jump to male/male unions! Never had a use for one before- gotta love The Wall!
Thanks,
Patrick
