First generation fitting (lower Elbow). This Long Island Fatmhouse was built in 1846. Not sure when Steam went in. Steamhead and Dan will know the manufacturer and approximate year.  Mad Dog

Perhaps, Carbon Dating will be of some assistance. I know that is how many of us old timers verify our age. Birth Certificates are hard to find for some of us.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

What radiators are connected to the system Mad?

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

That would be my guess- late 19th or early 20th century. Let's see those radiators!

Is something purposely packed between the tee and elbow, or is it just  "stuff"?

I don't know..could be horsehair or hemp? I just had the HO have all the asbestos abated. This is what was underneath. The old Farmhouse has settled and some mains are backpitched.  I put up pictures a few months back, but this asbestos pre-dated the nice, factory made Cell-type. Mad Dog
