Old American Standard 1932-1933 Boiler - Bricking or Ceramic Blanket?

Have old system and believe bricks were done in back about 15 Years ago. Firebox has nothing in it but looks like some old insulation. Contacted some one about 65 miles from me who said he could take care of the situation for $2,500. Has no license in my area but where he works he does. I bought ceramic blanket and was going to do firebox. Should I ? Should I just leave everything as is? My tune up guy says everything OK.

That firebox appears to be newer than the boiler. What burner does it have? All Steamed Up, Inc.

That is probably a pre-cast chamber that looks to be in good shape. There are 3 things that need checked: #1), look to see if the floor is intact on the left side rear. If is OK let it alone. #2), That blanket piece above the rear block may not be needed. It is usually put there only if the flame is long enough to impinge or have contact with the back boiler section. Other than that the chamber looks good. Do not try to move the chamber pieces since they will probably crumble if moved. #3), If you can get some furnace cement, you should seal that gap between the top of the pre-cast chamber and the boiler sections to keep the flue gasses from flowing down into that gap.1
