Buderus BFU blinking intermittently

I have a R2107 with a BFU room sensor that was installed around 2005. The BFU blinks in sequence occasionally, (but not all the time). Other threads mention polarity of the connection (didn’t light at all when I tried reversing). Sensor is ‘on’ in the 2107 as it should be.

the system worked flawlessly for years. Any ideas??
