Zone valve diagnosis

Hello, one of my zone valves is definitely broken. On the working zone valve, I turned on the thermostat and then I watched the metal piece rotate and hit the end switch and the boiler kicked on. For the broken zone valve, when I turned on the thermostat, the metal piece never rotated, and it just hummed. Do I need a new motor or entirely new zone valve? Thank you

What model zone valve? Is the Honeywell with the red and yellow wires? If it is then I would recommend ordering an entire new valve and rebuilding the whole thing. This can be done without cutting it out of the piping.0

Yes it is Honeywell. V8043. You don’t think just replacing the motor would fix anything?0

It might. Take the motor off the valve body and see if there's any resistance when you move the shaft. It should move freely. If it doesn't then you should rebuild it. It's very easy to do.0

Sorry for dumb questions, but when I take the motor off to test it, do I need to make sure the breaker is off and boiler is off? For safety concerns0

Shut the boiler off and lock the zone valve in the open position with the slide on the bottom and unscrew the two flat head screws in each corner of the motor assembly, they won't come all the way out. Then pull the motor off the valve0
