Wayne PC4, or some other transfer pump

Is the Wayne PC4 a good pump to use to fill a hydronic system with 50/50 glycol/water that spans basement to 3rd floor (approximately 30' in height from boiler to 3rd floor radiators)?

Is there a better one?

Thanks.

That one is fine. If you want something cheaper a PC-2 is less$$$$$ and will pump up to a 30' head.

Chek the label on the glycol, 40% is generally plenty.

Don't forget the corrosion inhibitor and check the pH. you want it 7 to 11.

40% -- got it. I have my test strips and refractometer ready.

PH range of 7 to 11? That seems like a very wide range.

Should I be adding a separate corrosion inhibitor?

    I'm using Hercules 35284 Cryotek -100.

The glycol will have the ph buffed up to 10 or so generally.

Checking it every year or so will tell you if the inhibitor is depleted. If it falls into the 7,s it best to flush, clean and replace the fluids.

If you buy pre blended and clean the system first with a hydronic cleaner you should be fine for 10 years or more

Dirty systems and constant over heating breaks down glycol quickly.

Solar thermal is tough on glycol fluids.
