Combi Boiler

Need to replace an EK-1 2000 installed in 1998 and beginning to fail, not always firing when called for, etc- well built house, 2000 sq ft, two full baths, kids are gone so now only my wife and I so usually only one shower at a time, maybe dish washer or washing machine also running - quotes from two installers both of whom have done work for me and can be trusted - because of space limitations, want to eliminate hot water tank so considering a combi - one suggests EK Ascent and the other says Bosch Singular 4000. I would appreciate the Forums thoughts.

The ONLY thing the Bosch Singular has over the EK is that it saves more space. They don't belong in the same level of consideration. Recommend the EK.

But what specifically is beginning to fail? If it's just controls that can always be repaired.

IMO there is one cardinal sin when changing out a boiler system and that is replacing a boiler mate with a combi, it's already there the new boiler can make use of it, or you can get a complete new system. That being said if you are already familiar with the potential tradeoff of a combi, between the two brands you gave EK seems like a no brainer to me
