Picked up 5 @ $60 each locally.  They're in really great shape, no rust or crud, spuds unscrewed with minimal effort.  They're small but plenty large enough to replace the crappy baseboard units that the local plumbers installed after throwing out 4 of the original cast convectors.  I'll put thermostatic valves on them to be safe.

I picked them up at the local "Hearst church" financed by William Randolph s mother in the 1800s

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Those are one of my favorite radiators... Nicely proportioned, very high quality, strong but lightweight castings and still enough mass and water content to provide very steady even heat.

Thanks.  Very excited to have found them locally.

Yesterday i removed one of the El cheapo baseboard units that the local plumbers used to to replace one of the original cast convectors.

The Corto i put in it's place is a bit smaller but puts out great heat now.  Used a TCV and pitched with level towards the new trap.  Luckily there was a ball valve at the base so I could do the switch without interrupting heat to the rest of the units.  When I turned it on I could hear the steam rush in, rad was hot in just a couple minutes and the elderly tenant of 25 years was thrilled.

There were originally 2 cast convectors in this room I think this one Corto will be enough to cover both.

@mad dog2 apologies for the landlord/diyer mix of black and galvanized I was limited to the available stock at the local Ace.
