Archer Boilers

Was talking to the a wholesaler in about a few products and cast iron boilers came up. They used to be the distribution guys for Slant Finn boilers and now are repping Archer boilers by US Boiler. Looks like the Slant Fin line and was excited to see a somewhat center flue come back. Mainly because I come across a lot of those in my area and Weil McLain was my only other option for a replacement CI with center flue. Anyone have any experience with the Archer line yet?

The oil boilers strongly resemble the old Slant/Fins, including the 3" outlet tapping on the steamer.

The gas ones look like rebranded Crown or New Yorker units.

I was thinking the same thing. The thing that caught my eye was the center flue. I come across a lot of old American Standard or some AC Delcos with center flue in tight spots or garages that I don't have the room to replace it with a CI Crown because of size and flue configuration. Weil McLain would be my other option for CI, but stock has been low in my neck of the woods with only one supply house repping them.

I guess my HD isn't stocking them yet?  Never heard of em. Slant Fin was a great, Local, Long Island 🏝 company.  The Boiler line never was able to get the love and respect from Legit Plumbing & Heating outfits here in NY.  Even before, they were sold at HD, except for the Caravans (multi) system, they were looked down upon. The only time I saw them installed, was when G.C.s, DIYers, Fly-by-Nights did it.  The few I did put in where bought by the HO.

When Noel Murdough (RIP) went to work for Slant Fin (1999-2000ish), he really debunked the Quality issues.  He did say, over Cold beers 🍻 On the Front porch, was the main reasons he was hired in Tech Support was to walk the Bone-Heads through who were installing them.  We rolled around on the ground at their disaster of a name and jacket they put on "The Bobcat' ....if they were going for a space age look, R2D2 WAS a better name. Slant Fin was a super generous Company that needed some young, Gung Ho 30 yr  olds to make the necessary changes and moves.   HAPPY NEW YEAR Mad Dog

I see HD sells them, must be an online thing like their oil tanks. I liked the Slant Fin line and we had good support from the wholesaler here in SE Mi. Going on service calls you can see what the popular choice boiler choice was over the years. Wish Perrless had a better distribution network in my area.

    Archer Lancer = Burnham X-2
Archer Ranger = Burnham Series 2

Basically the same thing with Williamson and Weil Mclains
