Indirect Water Heater on Boiler - Tracking usage

I have a steam boiler with indirect HW storage tank, Aquastat, and an old honeywell dial thermostat on that part of the system.

I'd like to be able to track run time for HW calls to the boiler. Any suggestion?

I set one of these on top of my boiler, about 1 inch away from the flue pipe, with the sensor pinhole facing the flue. It's a temperature data logger that will record sensed temperature for about a month at a time. The sensed temperature spikes during boiler runs. Once a day I go down to the basement with my phone and use the app to download the most recent data via Bluetooth. You can see the data as a graph on your app, or you can then download it as a .csv file for further massaging in Excel.

Most times I just check the length of the most recent boiler run, and the time between runs, on the graph on my phone screen. For deeper analysis, there are times when I'll download the .csv file for the whole week, copy and paste the numbers into Excel, and do a sum to add up cumulative run time.

This method only tracks the total boiler run time, whether it's for hot water or heat.

Add a transformer and RIB relay to DHW aquastat circuit. NO output leads of RIB relay to boiler. Whatever 24v timing device you're using goes parallel with RIB relay inputs.
