Graphite heat plates - DIY

Hi there,

About to launch my install for my house. Going to be a guinea pig for this one. Above subfloor install. Underlayment and graphite sheet only. Total thickness 0.020". Edit: These will be the equivalent of the traditional "4'x4" aluminium plates". Stapled to subfloor. 1/2 " PEX A tubing. Attached picture is just a mock up but that is the idea.

Cheers

If you use thin gauge aluminum with the graphite be sure it is fastened tightly and the tube is siliconed in also.

You could get noise from the expansion and movement.

Thanks, planning to do an install with no aluminium plate. Just the graphite sheet with that underlayment underneath. Boiler is equipped with ODR, I am hopeful this will mitigate the noises.

I think that is better, without the aluminum. It should not make noise.

When Watts first started researching graphite plates we did an entire home. It was for one of the employees, as a demo. It had graphite plates stapled over the tube from below the subfloor. No noise problems, and we ran it fairly hot. It ran off a dedicated HW heater.
