Old medium wet ret

happy Thanksgiving, hope you all are happy and healthy

It's been 15 years since I've seen a wet return off the floor, this job I am looking at has a return line about 18" off the floor. The supplies are the normal 6 feet or so. Just a small 300 sq ft edr job

I forget the exact rules on height issues and can't seem to locate Old Medium in the book. Does anyone recall the chapter?

The cement blocks look a little funny, but happy to haul them to the job.

Hiya Gary!!!  Any pics?  As long as they are below the boiler water line and pressure is usually they are usually not an issue.  Mad Dog 🐕

Yeah just keep the boiler water level covering any horizontal pipe that can get steam in it and your ok.

At 18" you should be ok with most boilers I would guess. Cement blocks or a raised pad it the option.

Unless you would rather drop the return LOL

Thanks Matt, Ed, I’ll proceed as normal, maybe slip some 4” blocks under the new boiler.

Small baseboard loop, no bypass, I bet it holds its water and doesn’t flash. I had to leave the job and do a zoom meeting, my guy put the circulator above the waterline, other than that I think everything looks spiffy

You can also make a false water line in the return. Looks better than putting it up on blocks if it is going to be more than one course.

Also make sure the wet returns really need to be wet before you go out of your way to make them that way. If there is just one connection at the end of the main they will be fine as long as you bring them below the water line where you connect them at the boiler.

That old burner looks older than the old boiler.

If the mid wet return and the water line is an issue I’m sure I’ll hear about it! The Economite is old for sure
