DIY Adding Outdoor Reset to Munchkin 140M

there's already a 13 yr old post on here with almost the same title, but without answers to my questions.

I’ve got a 140M with Vision 1 system and, for some reason, the previous owners didn’t install an OR. I bought the sensor and am looking to wire it.

Two questions:
I still need the female pins to add the wire to the Molex connector. I got a crimper with a variety pack of pins, but they’re too large. Does anyone know what size connector I’ll need?

For wire: I was planning on using T-stat wire. Will that be within spec?

thanks.

Why don't you just see if HTP still has replacement sensors ? https://htproducts.com/literature/lp-102.pdf

I bought the sensor already, from Jupiter Supply. It doesn’t come with a wire. Same listing as this one here: https://boilerpartsunlimited.com/products/7250p-319

EDIT: yea, annual you linked to specifies that both the wires and the sensor come with the Vision 1 control system, neither of which the previous owners seem to have left laying around.

edit again: here i thought the vision 1 system was a separate control board. but now im finding a new, open box vision 1 systems that’s just the wires and sensors. so… can someone explain to me what the difference between the vision 1 system and the 900-series Munchkin controllers is?

Vision 1 is indeed just a set of wires and sensors. You plug into the existing 900-series Munchkin controller.

Well, all this info is in that pdf linked by Rich_49 above.

yea, i guess im just dense. thanks.
  • Doesn’t the sensor connect to the light green wires with wire nuts?
    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

i don’t have the wires yet, but I do have a sensor i bought separately. it has no wires to wire-nut to.

The sensor has two small setscrews that you connect to 18 gauge thermostat wire that runs to the boiler and gets connected to the light green wires.

Am I correct in my understanding that, without using the indirect water heater sensor, the Vision 1 is just going to supply my hot water heater with reset-temp water?

Looking closer, it looks like my hot water and heating zone valves wires all got connected to the same T-stat wire for the boiler. So the boiler doesn’t know the difference.

I had hopes that I could just install the indirect water sensor and the Vision would recognize the call, without the need for a separate, indirect circ. But 1) my Triangle Tubes Phase III doesn’t even have a place to install it and 2) posts on here say you definitely need a circ for the indirect (waiting to hear back from htp about that) and to follow the piping diagrams (which would require me to add an indirect circ and move the main circ from supply side to return side).

Really bummed that this ODR isn’t a simple setup. The house was pretty cozy for the week before the warm weather led to a cold shower.

edit: my piping matches the “retrofit” example in the munchkin 925 140M etc install manual. which it doesn’t look like theresa a comparable version in the vision 1 install guide.
