I had a similar question, but was looking to heat the underside with electric roof melt lines. Was going to line the underside with rolled aluminum and tack on the electric for very short usage as a precaution. Our roof is very well vented. Metal. In 10 years, it's only been a problem last season where the outside weather was volatile enough to form ice above the eaves where the snow didn't slide off the way it usually does. Melt and refreezing caused issues where the metal was bent/crushed. I'd like to avoid this by installing some sort of heating source to turn on for a few hours to help the snow to slide off the way it usually does... or should do. Thoughts?

@tcrouseNY, I've started a new discussion for you so that your post doesn't get lost at the bottom of an old thread.
