Ground source heat pump in standby mode

I have a Neura 15kw heat pump and I swopped out the old thermostat for a new one. It's an 'EPH CP4B' as recommended by 'EPH' as a replacement for my old one, 'TheBen 795.'
Anyway, I hooked it up. It's simple two wire carrying 230v and my problem is, when the heat pump is supposed to start either in auto mode or manual mode, it goes straight from 'pump mode' to 'standby mode' and the pump doesn't run.
As i understand it. 'Standby mode' is when the panel is waiting for an instruction from the thermostat to turn on.
Is the thermostat the wrong type or is something else wrong?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
