I have an EK2 installed in 2009. It recently started kettling pretty bad when it gets up to temperature - very loud banging and then the pressure relief blows. I ran boiler cleaner through it and drained 3 times to hopefully handle any scale. There was no change in the kettling. The temperature gauge is quite high but I'm not sure if that's normal. I replaced the T&P valve with a new one so I'm pretty sure that's good. Do the return water sensors ever go bad? Is it the energy manager? It's cold now here in Alaska and I don't want the house to freeze.

If the pressure relief blows repeatedly, that suggests that the expansion tank has failed.—

Thank you for your post, @akgrizzlylodge , and for your suggestion @bburd . Based on the description, I’d agree that it’s likely a failed expansion tank, possibly a failed circulator as well.RogerPresident

I should have mentioned that it should not kettle, either. It likely needs a more thorough cleaning. A heating pro can call us to get those instructions.
