Steam Radiators With or WITHOUT VENTS

Hi all,

My radiators were not heating up, so I removed the air vents and all started to heat very nicely.  Some remained heating up after I placed the air vent back but the rest did not, despite new air vents being installed on them. They only heat up strictly without an air vent on them!

What are the implications of running a couple of radiators without air vents on them?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Steam pouring out when you least expect it and burning living creatures.
Losing excess water when the steam pours out, causing excess make up water, and rotting out your boiler.
Not actually finding the problem you are currently having and fixing it properly.

What is the main venting like in the basement?

Steam exiting the radiators... causing eventual water loss in the boiler. Lots of fresh water frequently added to the boiler leads to corrosion. The solution? Install new vents on the radiators, your old ones sound shot.

Show some pics of your boiler...what is your pressuretrol set too? Excessive pressure can prematurely kill radiator vents.
